As documented in an earlier thread I've recently established a wireless internet connection via a Livebox - replacing my ever-reliable Speedtouch modem that I've used for the past couple of years.
When using the Speedtouch I would often use the indication it gave of usage (i.e. how much data had been uploaded and downloaded during a session) to give me a rough guide to my overall broadband usage.
Can the Livebox provide similar information or can Orange themselves? OR can anyone recommend software (preferably freeware!!) that can be used to monitor my usage?
Hi I use a great bit of freeware called NetMeter.
I have used it for about 4 monhts with no problems.
It will give you live info as you down/upload and best of all the following.
Uploads
Downloads
Total of up/down
Monthly reports/totals
Weekly reports/totals
Daily reports/totals
Projected useage
And a great little function that allows you to set a traffic volume limit, this will warn you when you are approaching the limit, it resets to zero at the end of the month.
I set mine at 2GB and at the moment it tells me I have used 230MEG, 1.75GB left, and have an average of 113MB left per day till the end of the month to keep to 2GB.
It's not memory hungry so can left running.
One postee with several computers in the house who used it because of the worry of excess useage found that one of the childrens computers was responsible for 60% of the useage!! It allowed him to ' have words' and reduce it to an aceptable level.
Hope this helps.

Ps. if you keep the up/down graph visible and suddenly see data being uploaded/downloaded when not expected it could be a sign of hacking/virus etc sending data from your computer.
