Hi there, I received the standard letter from Orange the other week telling me I had been downloading too much. The letter stated that I had downloaded an average of 26.2gb over the last 3 months.
This does seem quite a low amount compared to other peoples posts, some of them had got warnings around the 40gb mark. perhaps Orange are changing the goalposts again!!
As far as i am aware the fair usage policy only comes into play if you download more than 40g a month. It sounds like another one of oranges dirty tricks to lock you into another 12 month contract by changing your package, did your letter say that the package you are currently on is no longer suitable?
No, they did say that they might cap my speed though. I don't have a contract with them anymore as I have been with them for a while.
I will see what happens and change ISP if they do.
Are you on the Home Starter package? The download limit for this package used to be 2GB, but has been increased to 10Gb usage allowance.
The Home Select and Max packages have unlimited downloads subject to FUP.

You may be out of your minimum contract, but you still have a contract with Orange and as such should adhere to the download limits applicable to the package you are on.

Well, I phoned them up and tried to reason with them. I said perhaps they could cap me at 1mbps instead of .5mbps I would accept my punishment for the 3 months they stated and watch what I am doing from now on.
But there was no budging them, the lad on the phone tried talking to a manager to see if there was anything that could be done but there was no way the cap was going to be removed or lessened.
Even the lad on the phone said he wouldn't put up with being capped like this.
I have left Orange for the Post Office, I swapped over on 30/07/09. The post office router was simple to use all I had to do was plug it in and it did the rest.
Then yesterday after all that Orange sent me a letter saying my package was no longer available and because they won't invest in upgrading at my exchange they wanted me to pay £23 a month instead of £19.57.
I am soooo glad I have left them, Please anyone reading this, get away from Orange as quick as you can!!!!!
