June 15th 09 I asked Orange for MAC code as put out by the new price rise and enforced 8mb broadband like it or lump it attitude. I like 2mb and did not want 8mb as more money and I aint getting a poay rise this years so cant afford it. I Had been with them since Freesrevs so 10 years LOYAL service.
On June 16th I was sent MAC code. I gave it to Post Office same day as i joined. They told me changeover will be smooooooth as silk on July 16th and it was.
I notice my Orange e-mail was still available on line.
Stopped my DD after the last payment was taken on 21st July. I worte to Orange and asked for any balance due and told em I have stopped DD.
Ornage (The futures bright for our MD) Reply this morning:
I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with a payment taken from your account,i have looked into this for you and you requested a MAC code on the 15th of June this was issued to you on the 16th and valid for 30 days .
Once you have given this to your new isp and the account is activated they sent us confirmation and then a 30 days notice is applied onto your account for closure.
I can confirm that we received notification on the 26th of July and the account is due for closure on the 25th of August.
Any refund that you are due would be credited back to your payment method once the account is closed.

My question is surely I gave notice when I asked for MAC code?
The fact that Post orafice only confirmed I was connected on the 26th July when I went live on 16th is a puzzle.
Now Orange (the futures bright) are asking me to reinsate the DD or face a fine of extra £5
Can they do this as I think its a scam for an extra months money
I'm in exactly the same boat but that's not what they told me.
I migrated on 29.7.09 and was told I'd only need to pay them up to 31.7.09 (the day they cancelled my account).
The guy said I'd need to pay a full payment in August then they'd refund the days not used in September.
There is a contract in place which says that you must give them 30 days notice of cancellation.
When a MAC is used that triggers the 30 days notice period.
It doesn't start when the MAC is issued because you might change your mind and not use it.
So it is prudent to time your migration to minimise the amount you pay to the losing ISP. To my knowledge all broadband contracts (other than the 1 month ones) have this 30 day notice period, it's not just Orange.

Thank you I went live with post office on 16t July but Orange the futures bright say that post office only confirmed it to them on 26th july hence this when my month starts. I hava a letter from post office saying I am live on july 16th so what do you rekcon to this? Is my month 16th or 26th?
I think I am going to complaint to trading standards and others as asking for a MAC code in my book means you inetnd to leave

OFCOM basically wrote the rules that ISPs comply with particularly in respect of MAC codes (OFCOM General condition 22).
As you have the Post Office letter, notify Orange that you disagree with their date and if they wish to have a copy of the letter you could send it to them. If you don't get any joy then email executive.office@orange-ftgroup.com with the same information.

Marverlooos stuff. Slight off topic, I sometimes wonder whos side these regulators are on. I am a Postie and Postcom or watch whatever they are called, insist Royal Snail deliver the competitions mail at a lower cost. And we do, every day. So next time you hear Royal Snail bleating on about being affected by the competition, its all cobblers!
I used that e-mail address supplied executive.office@orange-ftgroup.com and was amazed at the fast response. Less than a day, dealt with by two e-mails and a phone call from a guy called Steve. ( IMHO I dont think he earns enough for doing Orange Broadbands dirty work whilst the boss rakes it in with scamms attempted like mine!!!!)
No arguing form Stave, and a grade A result. I got my money back and prob sorted. Now that may make me want to think about going back one day if PO play up.
