Well here is what happened. My old computer which is XP had ethernet connection to livebox and worked perfecly from when I joined Orange broadband. But I had bluescreen problems so I didn't have the Windows XP CD so I brought a new Computer which was Vista(DELL). I took the ethernet cable off the XP and connect it to Vista and it automatically rcognised it and installed it as 'Local Area Network'. After few days I got Windows XP CD and fixed the problem then connected the internet using the 2nd ethernet port and worked perfectly. \the computer was too slow so I formatted the XP HDD and reinstalled Windows XP. Then I had 30 days to activate the Windows. I want to activate it by the internet so I tried to connect it using livebox but Windows XP wont recognise that I've connected the wire to ethernet port and PC. The '@' light from wireless is flashing slowly and the 'wireless' light is solid. Is there any way to connect to the internet in XP. Also I don't have the Orange Livebox CD. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. When I go to CMD(command) and type ipconfig /all it says 'Windows IP Configuration'. Also LAN is enabled in BIOS and something called LAN Boot ROM is Disabled. Note: It stopped working only after the Re-Installation of Windows XP. When I type 192.168.1.1 I get the internet cannot open the search page, I've also tried configuration.adsl and no luck.
I think the driver is the problem. Thats why I downloaded Realtek Ethernet 10/100 Drivers. I will reply if it works and I will also reply if it didn't solve the problem.
I Finally found the problem. It was because the Ethernet Controller was not installed. So I took the Motherboard code and got the file that is needed for Ethernet Controller. It was something MCP nVidia....i dont remember it properly. Thanks people for replying.
