Recently, as I am sire you are aware, Orange put their prices up and modified their packages. my youngest sister has just received the letter telling me that she is being transferred to
Quote:
Broadband Max (Off Net).
She is on a village exchange so LLU will be unlikely in any near future.
Now I remember that originally I was on the old 'Unlimited' package (£19.99) but was able to save £2 of that when I was informed that if I didn't want the 'free' overseas calls, I could save a couple of quid as I have no real reason to make overseas calls. However I was able to keep the livebox and make 'free' UK landline calls
They have now sent me the price hike letter also.
My youngest sister however started off on the old 2GB package with a 'fsworld.co.uk' address for £17.99 (speedtouch modem...replaced with my old wired router) and hasn't changed anything until she also had the letter saying she was being transferred the new package costing £19.99 .
What I would like to know is for this package, should Orange be supplying her with the 2nd line & Livebox? I am asking here rather than spend (waste)
money ringing Orange and also I do not wish to identify her as she is looking at her options for migrating to another ISP. Her broadband speed is limited by her distance from the exchange (512kbps) and since it is not LLU , the crap speed is not an Orange issue.
I'm asking this question, because if there is a nominal £2/month rental for a livebox in the subs, I think Orange should be supplying her with the equipment However I don't want to see her change anything & get locked in fo a year if whe can get cheaper elsewhere.
I strongly suggest getting away from Orange and moving to a real ISP who will provide you with a proper line speed and not excuses.
There are plenty of good ones around and if you can get wither Idnet or o2 (now Sky) at your exchange they are both fantastic.
Orange will try to lock you into a new contract but provide a poor service.

Unfortunately at the moment, there aren't any ISPs out there who provide any faster speeds for my sister. Quoting www.kitz.co.uk the maximum available speed available on her line (Distance:- Direct: 3.42 km (appx) By Road: 6.92 km) is 512kbps and that is what she gets. Up to now she hasn't had any issues with Orange. Although the exchange is in Market 1, there are no LLU services available.
I have suggested she check out the broadband comparison sites as I know in her circumstances, any savings are welcome.
I agree with you on poor service from Orange, although I would put 95% of what is reported here down to one cause. Off-shore call centres reading scripts I remember seeing 'admin' quoting a release by Orange that they would be repatriating the call-centres. When?

Absolutely correct.....BT also use an "offshore" call centre and their customers are equally as vocal on the forums regarding quality of service.
I believe Orange have only repatriated the mobile phone call centre, perhaps as a test and perhaps BB will follow. But if they wait too long their BB customer base will be so small any call centre will not be economically viable.
