Been on Orange 8mb line with around 6mb actual for at least 2 years now. 2 months ago I kept getting line disconnects - sometimes 10+ an hour, sometimes none for a couple of hours. Responses from Orange help put problem as BT, had livebox in master socket etc and numerous testing from BT/Orange and phone calls to and from Orange help with no change except speed dropped drastically. Eventually my home phone packed up 2 weeks ago and BT finally diagnosed a faulty line from house to junction on pole, this was renewed plus new master socket installed a week ago.
Now seeing Livebox stats as
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 31.1
Attenuation (dB) : 21.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 10432
But my download/upload rate has been stuck at same 576/288 where it has been since the problems started.
BT test gives same speeds with IP profile 500kbps and an actual of 40.
So my question is - will the speeds automatically rise after a certain number of days - if so after how long, or is it possible/probable there is still a problem?
Thanks for quick feedback - looks like I'll give it another week, test every day to see what happens then start the Orange "help" routine if no improvement - or am I being cynical!!
No harm being cynical when you're an Orange customer
Just to add further comment, your attenuation of 21dB does allow a throughput speed of probably at least 6Mb if you sync >7000kbps with a normal SNRM of around 10dB........you must be pretty close to your local exchange.
Pity actually, up to recently I have never had to deal with Orange help and was perfectly happy with my BB connection/speeds, all thats occurred with my experience from them now its making me take a look at other providers.
I'm about 1km from the exchange so have always had good connection and speeds (when i can get them!)
