I was looking all over the place for information to help me set up my Orange/Wanadoo mail account on the iphone as I could receive messages but not send. I spent hours looking all over the web but didn't find an answer that worked perfectly for me.
I contacted Orange as advised by the Apple site and received an email back saying:
Hello Jon,
Thank you for your email.
We would like to inform you that we do not have any technical support
for emails through Mobile Phone.
However, follow the link given below for more help on the Orange email
settings:
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.
That link was no use whatsoever and just takes you to a basic email settings page. No help for mobiles at all.
I did find a site somewhere that said to use the o2 (now Sky) SMTP server for outgoing messages and after several failed attempts I found a configuration that appears to work fine both with wifi and whatever it's called when you aren't wifi.
I thought I'd put the details here so that anybody else struggling to get theirs set up could save time and stress.
The incoming server details are the same as I use on my computer.
The outgoing server details are:
Host name: smtp.o2 (now Sky).co.uk
User Name: blank
Password: blank
Use SSL: OFF
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 25
As I've said, this has worked perfectly for me now since Tuesday morning so if it saves just 1 person going through the hassle and stress I did then it's worth my time typing this out.
