Right, now this tells me that I have a very good connection but obviously I haven't.
Here is a test I did from Speedtest.net :
How can my results possibly be that bad if I have an 8Mb connection? Isn't that supposed to be fast?
Also every now-and-then my Livebox seems just turn itself off and then on again, you can hear a *click* sound when it does it. That's quite annoying when you are in a middle of a game.
And the lag on Xbox Live is unbearable, I can't even talk to my friends without their voices being all distorted and jerky all the time.
And every time I E-Mail Orange about my problems, they seen to not understand any of it, and send me a reply which doesn't help at all.
And some people have said that it may be IP congestion or something, but if that's the case, how come my friend that lives down the road that is on a 2Mb package with Tiscali gets a better connection than me all the time?
So yeah, I'm in desperate need of help as I am on the brink of leaving Orange - and I have been with them since the days of 'Freeserve' and I have never had a problem like this before
I'm not an expert, but I've read that "Interleave" increases line stability but increases ping and reduces speed. I would call Orange and ask for them to change it to "Fast" and try it for a week and see the results.
I would leave them. They do not appear to have the tiniest bit of knowledge and do not have the ability to help technically.
I suspect that there are people at Orange who know full well what these various problems are. Because they have such a large customer base from the old Freeserve days, and because a significant number of people who don't play on line games won't complain, they will just leave things as is. I also suspect they are cramming as much traffic as they think they can get away with down their lines so you get a bad service at peak times. It would cost them to sort it so they don't.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to leave them, I got another reply from Orange after threatening to leave, and they told me to check if I have connected the Xbox properly.
Which I think is just a tad bit rude, since I have already told them how I have set it up, and what my problem is.
I've had it connected since launch of the Xbox 360, I think I know what I am doing.
Hi EscapeFateDan, I work for Orange and might be able to help.
Please send an email to customer.services@orange.co.uk, including your personal contact details and username from this site, and I will give you a call to discuss.
In order that your email is forwarded to me quickly, please add "Jonathan Orange Response" in the subject field and also in the first line of your mail.
Well yeah, Orange rang me in the end. Said they would turn interleave off in 24hours.
Did they? No of course they didn't.
So I was angry and so I asked my Dad to speak to Orange. They pretty much told him in their own little way that they can't do it and we have to ring BT ourselves to do it.
Now why didn't they tell me this in the first place, and why did they say they would do it in 24hours?
I'm sick of them constantly avoiding my problems, then lying about things.
So after my contract is up (next month I think) I'm going to seriously consider moving ISP.
