I play counter strike source alot and my dad made the mistake of getting Orange broadband. The ping is actually alright when I am the only one using my PC but the second someone logs into their machine thats it, ping fluctuating or constant 100. They aren't even downloading, my dad just plays freecell and yet I am running at 100 ping I don't get it. The second he turns his computer off my ping goes back to 20-30....it's insane, what is it about the livebox that makes it have a hissy fit every time 2 or more people connect to it? Although saying that, its not the livebox as I have plugged in a different router and it does the same thing. Would interleaving cause this problem?

nevermind about interleaving, my connection type is fast (which I believe means interleaving is off) which now leaves me even more stumped as to what is wrong with my network

Sounds like an issue with the computers connected to the LAN, the ADSL connection and things like interleave won't come into it. (Inside vs Outside). How they are actually connected to the Livebox may have an effect. The yellow socket sometimes gives problems as its intended for the non existent digital TV. I'd recommend a separate hub or switch to connect more than 1 PC with its cable wired into the red socket.

I do have a swtich and it goes into the red one, I have done everything on the internal networking to make it as fast as possible. Nothing has made any difference, tried a different router and still trouble, its just the second any computer goes on I lag. We have all bought new computers aswell and still I get lag.

This is me pinging my works server which should be close by, and my dad just has his pc turned on not even logged in and on stand by, no possible way it should lag me yet I am getting random ping spikes which makes gaming absolutely infuriating when someone just turns their pc on.
