A broadband service originally put together as a partnership between the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 could soon be in the hands of a new owner, it has emerged.
It is reported that Orange may be in line to buy the technology behind Project Kangaroo, which was originally to bring internet television and streaming video to consumers across the UK.
The initiative was put on hold in February following an investigation by the Competition Commission which found that were the organisation to continue it could represent too dominant a force in the fledgling sector.
With the joint project now defunct, Orange may step in to take the reigns of what is thought to have already seen around £20 million of investment - although it has been suggested this could be at a significantly reduced price.
However, it has also emerged that the network, which offers a range of internet services in addition to its mobile phone business, is not the only one interested in acquiring Project Kangaroo - and another technology company is also in the running.
A spokesman for Orange's parent company, France Telecom, said there has been no decision made at this stage but admitted the organisation was monitoring the current situation.
"Nothing has been decided but we can confirm we are examining it," he said.
"We are very cautious about what we are saying in the UK but (Kangaroo) could help us in developing more quickly Orange TV projects in France," the spokesman added.
France's Orange TV is also reportedly designing an iPhone 3G application which will allow people to watch live television on the device.
