I came onto this forum to get some help as I'm having a bit of trouble with my speeds.
I was frustrated with getting such slow upload/download speed that I decided to remove the front plate off my BT master socket and connect directly. I immediately proceeded straight to the admin page to see whether it had made the slightest difference.
It has and the following details are:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : ADSL2+
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 10.2
Attenuation (dB) : 49.5
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 5053
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 5016 605
When the BT faceplate is back on and connected I get pretty much the same noise margin and attenuation, but my attainable download rate is approximately 2350. The actual download speeds vary between 2300 and 1400. I might add that my livebox disconnects during the evening on practically every other day and comes back on with lower speeds.
What I'm basically asking is if anyone knows any ideas why this is happening. It might not be an Orange problem as such but maybe more a faulty socket? I'm not sure. Your feedback is very welcome
I used to get 2.5mB download speeds. Followed the advice on here and removed wires 3 and 4 from sockets. Immediately got 6mB download speeds. Well worth 15 min with a screwdriver.
Nice one stevep. This is only your 2nd post on this forum but you obviously searched and read the various problems on here.
What many people must begin to appreciate is that some of their problems are not related to Orange but as Orange have a bad reputation they are immediately thought of as the culprit.
If only they would do what you did and research the problem they would almost always come up with a solution.
I was trying to finish the job earlier but I ran into the unknown. On most sockets I imagine there is one wire inserted in the slots. However I opened up one of the sockets today to find that there were 2 cables over the top of each other in slots 2 and 5. So my question is this should I leave them like that or should I take one out from each?
So at the moment I have removed all 3/4 cables in the house as far as I am aware and have only seen an increase in attainable download rate to 2600kbps. This is a small improvement but still half of what I get when I plug in directly to the master socket.
I guess the only thing I can do is remove 1 and 6 cables as well?
I'm currently at a a loss at what to do now as I've removed all nescessary wires and still dont get 5000 but 2800 instead. I dont think I have missed any sockets as I have searched the house pretty thoroughly . Any suggestions?
