Orange has announced trials of 20Mbps fixed-line broadband services.
The ISP, which has around one million broadband customers in the UK, has its own 'unbundled' network, meaning it doesn't rely on BT's infrastructure to provide broadband services to many customers.
The 20Mbps trial will only be offered to selected Orange customers, who will have a separate support team and microsite for the service.
However, Orange said it had plans to open up the 20Mbps service to all of its customers, should they want it.
Asif Aziz of Orange UK said: "This trial is an important step in enabling us to offer up to 20Mbps home broadband to consumers across our network.
"It is also testament to our ongoing commitment to evolve our fixed broadband service and ensure we offer customers a truly reliable user experience," he continued.
Several other ISPs already offer speeds up to or in excess of 20Mbps, including o2 (now Sky) and Be Broadband. Virgin Media recently began offering 50Mbps broadband services to customers in some regions.
OrangeProblems.co.uk will be opening up a new section for the "Up to 20 Meg Orange customers" in the next few days to see whether Orange really are offering customers a truly reliable user experience.
