New to the forum, but have found it very interesting.
I would just like to know, is it possible to connect to Orange using a different manufacturers router (belkin) etc rather than having to go through the livebox?
The reason I ask is that recently I have been having connection problems, which is very frustrating. Everything at the pc end seems ok, I've has a pal assisting me by doing 'ipconfig' prompts and doing this 'ping' thing!!, so can only assume I have an intermitant fault with the livebox.
If it is possible to connect via a different router can anyone offer any advise over which manufacturer seems to be the best or are they all just as good as one another.
Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't, some webpages I can view some I can't. Those that I can't are not small sites that may have problems. The other day I couldn't connect to myspace for example and don't mock, but LeedsUnited.com.
I don't use the second line so i'm not bothered about that, I'm just after reliability, so if that means ditching this livebox and buying a router then so be it.
I just wasn't sure if you can connect via a different router or if you had to use the livebox.
Sometimes Orange has network outages which causes certain sites not to load. A different router would not make a difference in this case. This should not happen regularly though.
If it's Orange's DNS servers which are the problem, changing the DNS servers to http://www.opendns.com/ servers could resolve the problem.
People have also reported better stability with third party routers.
