Since then I have had nothing but a headache over this.
Basically: Orange did not provide me with their telephone service for 10 months - that is until February 2009. I made a post about this (above) in August 2008. Orange offered me only £44 in compensation.
I rang Orange to tell them they were in breach of contract in March and that I was moving away from them because of their lack of service and I was paying them for a contract they weren't fullfilling.
I requested my MAC code and migrated. (Best thing I *ever* did). I was told that using the MAC code automatically closed my account. I requested a final bill from them (but never got one)
I then heard nothing until a couple of days ago (July 2009). When I got a demand for £299. £180 cancellation fee (for cancelling the contract early), £67 call charges and the rest was late payment fees. I immediately rang them.
Orange said that my bills were online. I asked how could I get my bill if my account was closed? They said I couldn't!
I reitterated my reasons for leaving and said I wasn't paying a cancellation fee. They said that I did owe the money and not that they would take me to court, but that they would "sell my debt to a debt collection agency"!!!!!
I got the bills mailled to me and the figures don't add up! I've been through the calculations several times with a calculator and no matter which way I add them up they simply don't add up. It's like they're picking random numbers throughout???
How can I challenge this?
Can I pay Orange the £299 and then take them to court to get it back? If I do this would it be seen as me accepting liability for the figure.
Do I wait for the debt collection agency to take me to court and then get my say? Surely this will affect my credit rating?
Please Help!!!!!!!!
I'd have more respect for someone who mugged me, rather than this corporate giant bullying money out of me that I don't owe.
