I have two Nokia 6301 Unique 'phones connected to a Livebox Mini in an attempt to solve the poor reception we get on Orange in our house. However I have noticed that if I make or receive a call of any significant duration then the Livebox WiFi hangs up and the phone reverts to the Orange network which, as the signal is so poor, generally ends in a failed call. The only solution seems to be a re-boot on the Livebox. Anyone else had and success/failures with the Unique service?
Hi,
I've got a Nokia 6301 Unique phone too, which I use through my Livebox as I have zero mobile reception in my house. Its great when it works, but randomly and intermittently, the wifi connection goes down and so does the phone call.
I've been calling into Orange for about 3 months, I've had the phone replaced and the Livebox replaced, I've changed the channels and I've been through more diagnostics than I can bear.
I've come to the conclusion that its making a call which causes the wifi to go down - ie the internet will be fine all day if I don't use my mobile. But within sometimes 5 minutes of being on a call, the call gets dropped and the wireless internet connection on my laptop follows shortly after.
I'm now wondering if this is Orange limiting my bandwidth, as the problem is much less frequent in the evening and I actually had 2 hours straight on my phone late the other night without it dropping out once. Does this sound similar to your problem?
Simlar thing has happened to me. Had Unique now for 2 years. No real problems. Since Christmas (2009) my phones have gradualy failed to connect to the Unique server. I am not able to make a call with any of them now.
The phones are able to connect to the Livebox but my Nokia now reports "Internet connection failed". My Samsung and my HTC now show a red house. None of them connect to Orange.
"We have now launched a new service called UMA which is fundementally the same as Unique but is aimed at Blackberry users. Its uses the same Orange server. This is being promoted as a way of surfing the net when one does not have a Orange signal. It is a free service so Orange does not have to guarantee a connection. So tough that your unique service does not work any more."
My understanding is that the Unqiue bandwidth has been given to data users. I suppose that I will have to vote with my feet.
Try having no wired connection to the Livebox, all Blackberry data is routed via the Livebox/internet or Orange GPRS to Blackberries OWN servers.
Unique/UMA uses internet to transfer data back the same as a base station transmitter does over Orange to Orange's voice server/s,
Also on your Livebox settings change the second line quality to HIGH regardless if you have a second line or not, this ensures "voice" data has high priority over internet usage, that includes Unique/UMA data.
