Basically, ive been with the wanadoo deals since the start, we got a 2 meg 40gb limit, which often changed over the years but never caused us problems, that is until Orange took things over and started to mess about with our freedom.
We Use Our Connection For 4 different people with 4 computers and an xbox 360 and a nintendo wii.
we dont download collosal amounts and definately keep the heaviest downloading i.e. game patches, bbc i player videos to the off peak hours, but we constantly get letters saying weve downloaded too much this month, were being capped, then the next month get told we arent, even one month they said we had done 30 gb in 2 months, even though our limit was 40 a month, then they later apologized, but what do you know, another blasted letter next month, you used 64gb in 2 months, that means youre over your 80gb for 2 month limit :S
if that wasnt enough were now on that rubbish little 512kbps speed, shelling out for a seperate mobile phone contract on Orange and not getting the best deal we can, we pay the £11 BT line rental and £18 a month for 2 meg capped at 512 constantly, when there are Orange deals of £15 a month no line rental when used with a phone contract, which we have, but we werent offered this deal
The worst part is recently in the christmas season, ive wanted to use my xbox 360 to play online with friends, which is now IMPOSSIBLE, the NAT's are screwed up and i cant even open a party/chat! this truly is bad service, i would get myself a different internet service if it wasnt so annoying getting outve the deal my dads in with Orange, sending back the router? its like 5 years old, wanadoo and we dont use it anyway, we use our own router because the wanadoo one is for single pc use!
im getting more annoyed with Orange every day, but what is there to do is it just a seasonal thing that the NATs are screwed?
i can use my pc to patch games and update programs and i get around 240kbps download rate, which was our rate before cap anyways, and the cap should only apply during 6-11pm(peak hours) but its very confusing how my NAT's Suddenly completely stop working! i wish it was simpler then this
Signing up to a new contract with Orange will tie you in for 18 months and you will loose your clearly defined 40 gig a month limit. You will be susceptible to the 'fair usage policy' instead, which does not have clearly defined limits and is more in Orange's favour of interpretation of what your limit should be. You could see yourself being more easily capped or terminated.
Orange seam to no longer offer a 2 meg service.
Users have reported that indeed the caps seam to be constant rather than limited to only peak times.
The current liveboxes that are supplied with new contracts allow multiple wireless connections and usually 2 wired ports. Orange usually don't offer support for third party equipment.
I'm not sure what you mean by NAT's not working as this is a router feature allowing several computers to connect to the internet using only 1 IP address as supplied by Orange. If you are referring to your gaming experience, it seams Orange have been having widespread network problems affecting the latency, with users reporting their online gaming to be unusable. When and if this will be 'fixed' is any ones guess.
It may be of benefit to shop around to see what deals you can get as well as quality of service.
As your download speeds seam on the low side, out of interest what are your router connection stats?
Basically, orange still have us on an old wanadoo contract thats 2mb, we pay like £18 a month plus £11 line rental to BT, which ive explained to my dad is unreasonably high for something like that, we should be getting a deal like £15 for everything, i.e. tiscali are offering that service.
Its not the router that causes the slow downloads, im sure it would get higher speeds with a better connection.
As for what happened with the xbox live, we managed to get into a party by way of a friend inviting us both to a party, then we could connect to each other, play in games together and chat using mics, very tempremental i find, games always lag out with the Orange connection and its just not right, my dad keeps talking about how we will have to send the router and stuff back to them but, we dont use the speedtouch thing that we got with wanadoo about 4 or 5 years ago anyway, and i see no use for it for Orange either!
hopefully i can get a switch to tiscali asap!
A little tip for you that works with most ISP's if you want out of a contract without paying a fee...
Abuse fair use policies of downloading X amount for about 3 or 4 consecutive months, they will terminate your service or in some cases, if you get hit with an EUSC (end user speed control) you are allowed a MAC and can leave free of charge
