I am writing this review as we speak from my Asus EEE PC 901 with Orange 3G built in mobile broadband.
On Firrst impressions the box arrived on time via DPD as Orange said it would. The customer service selling the item and ensuring the delivery of the item was great!
The box comes branded as EEE PC from Asus and Orange have simply put a sim card inside which you have to insert under the battery yourself. But note they dont provide instructions on how to do this, i had to figure this bit out for myself.
The sim was already activated for me, and i put the laptop battery in, turned it on and run though the standard windows setup you get on most laptops. This then brought me to the desktop which was pretty much untouched XP with some EEE features thrown in. Openoffice, Works, WMP10 and WinDVD are thrown into the bundle.
Now this laptop i was told has bluetooth on but as far as i can see it hasnt, but this isnt mentioned on their site either so im going to let this one pass by. Now the wireless range is very good and i have a semi-large house and it reaches with a good signal from one side to the other no problems.
The 3g side of things is good too, I have been using this out and about all day and running speed tests at random intervals and i have always got 2mb around most of the wolverhampton area.
I phoned Orange to confirm a few things and spoke to a lovely engish lady who told me everything i needed to know without any hassle at all, i think this might be the turnaround that Orange need to get theyre CS back up to scratch.
Ill repost as the week goes on, but at the moment i can't see anything wrong with the machine or its connection, its all working fine and Orange have not messed with it by putting their own software onto the laptop and just left ASUS to do it for them, and the control program for the 3G just works, and you can keep an eye on what you use using the in built monitoring program. this records daily, monthly and yearly usage which can all be reset, and only applies to the 3g card and not the WIFI.
Hope this is a good start, like i said as i use it more ill report on what i find. The laptop is very fast too!
