Hi all,
I am wondering if it is possible to use the livebox to recieve my broadband in and for voip but have another router attached to the livebox for the wireless?
The reason im asking is because some time ago i got pi**ed off with the livebox and so went out and bought a belkin wireless N adsl router for enhanced range and stability.
The trouble is i cant use my voip through the belkin router only the livebox.
You can have your livebox connected to your phone line to receive broadband and voip, turn off the wireless on it. Connect your belkin to the livebox using the normal ethernet ports and turn on wireless on your belkin. This setup would also give you more available wired ethernet ports.
The belkin will not be acting as a normal router as you have nothing connected to its WAN port, so must of the firewall settings will be defunct (your livebox will be doing the job instead).
You can still access your network and broadband through your belkin, though may have to set your belkin as trusted in your software firewall for full network access.
The settings:
Do everything using a wired ethernet connection. First only have the belkin connected and do the setting on this. When the settings are saved. Connect you livebox let it boot up then turn on your belkin.
Leave DHCP on your live box, turn it off on the belkin. Give the belkin a fixed IP address on the same subnet as your live box. ie if your livebox's IP address is 192.168.1.1 give your belkin 192.168.1.2.
Once both are connected you should be able to configure your livebox by typing in 192.168.1.1 in your browser and the belkin via 192.168.1.2.
but its raised another question now... how do open a port to my computers IP address so i can use bittorent properly? I enabled DHCP as recommended on the livebox and deactivated it on the belkin. livebox is 192.168.1.1, belkin 1.2 and my computer 1.3. DHCP start address 192.168.1.2 and i believe all other settings are correct but my computer wont connect to the internet when i take it off "obtain ip automatically", i.e. i specify it as 1.3
To manually specify an IP address, you need to specify the livebox as the default gateway (192.168.1.1). You also need to makes sure your DNS servers settings are correct. (Either have it set to obtain it automatically or copy from the livebox config pages)
bit torrent, I have limited experience with. Though port forwarding can be set using the advanced settings on the livebox config pages.
