I am suffering problems with the internet in the evenings. Daytime is fine.
Alot websites are either taking ages to load, or not loading at all!
I have used 4 different laptops with different antivirus, etc. I even used a laptop with a fresh load. I have also used different ADSL Wireless routers.
I did a tracert on www.barclays.co.uk last night and it looks like some routers across the public network are either dead, or not in the routing list:-
Although I think this is a red herring because I get the same results and I can access Barclays fine this morning.
The internet is lightening quick in the daytime, but just to load a webpage in the evening takes about 10mins but most of the time it times out.
I have run speedtests in the day and the evening when it is slow and the results are the same so I dont think its a contention/line speed problem.
I am sick with Orange - who's tech support are numbsculls, I end up telling them a few things about IT [I am a VOIP engineer] This year alone I have had 2 months off air due to a server down [PPP Server down] I said I could rebuild the server within a couple of hours they said it could take weeks because its a 'special' server! lol. I also had a problem where the Livebox was rebooting all the time, after spending days and days on the phone with me begging them for a new router [to which they always said no], I gave up and bought myself a Netgear router costing £80 which fixed the problem.
So I am hoping its a problem with my ISP, so instead of spending another 10 years on the phone to them I have cancelled my contract and am going to go over to 02.
But if someone could help in the meantime that would be great! [/img]

I have just this minute switched to o2 (now Sky)'s ADSL 2+ service and the browsing speed is absolutely lightening. I click on a link and within a milisecond the next screen is there. Its quicker than some of my customer networks all for £7 a month!

A VOIP engineer that knows exactly how to fix every possible point-to-point (PPP) server problem within a few hours...i'm impressed, where were you trained? Port unlocking and port rebuilding but to name a few, not to mention active session termination, yeah, they are so very easy
It's funny really, customers moving from ISP to ISP, shouting and hating one company only to eventually realise that no matter who the ADSL broadband provider is, no matter whether IPStream, IPStream Max or LLU, everything routes through the Openreach servers anyway.
Switching your ISP is just like the government moving taxes from petrol to income tax etc. eventually the same things will happen to another company that can't handle the massive influx of customers, simple fact is, you are using an ADSL broadband service that operates on a 1950's copper cable whilst most of Europe and advanced nations use fibre-optics.
Ah the joys of Virgin Media and the hopeful arrival of BT's 21CN

What a funny little geek that 'Liquid' person is.
Been doing his research on the internet and quoting facts on here as he's been thrown out of the pub for boring people with tech talk.

Think of me as a voice that can be heard from both sides of the wall. My knowledge does not come from the internet as the mediocre insult aimed from cosmicdance believes. I have a most vivid fascination of how the masses treat large companies and vice versa and i like to see the stupidity of both sides, especially those who throw hilarious insults at someone who is a 'geek' for knowing what they are talking about.
Awww. i was looking forward to getting to know you better
Question is, if you didn't care who i was or give 'two hoots' (is there an owl about?) about me, why on Earth were you posting a reply saying such comments at 09:16 on Christmas day? Perhaps you don't celebrate this day, but surely even then, at such a time of year why would you respond? Were you at work getting paid lots of shiny pennies, posting on forums when you should of been answering the phone to disgruntled customers of your company because little Johnny and little Suzie's new router for their laptops to view MySpace accounts won't work?

You may think he's an idiot but Liquid has touched on a very valid and reasonable point there, ADSL sucks...
