There really shouldn't be anything significant, but there could be a number of factors why you do receive a loss during peak times.
Is this a recent happening? Within the last few weeks? Is it regular web browsing, or online gaming? If it is a gaming/streaming problem it could be related to the problem myself and other are now suffering with..
It could still be a speed throttling issue even if you are not using online gaming etc.. there has been a sharp rise in complaints about peak time speeds lately.
Basicly up until the 5th of October i would say Orange gave me a pucker service, as far as speed and connection went. Customer care a dif matter, seeing as i had good broadband i wasn't bothered about that side of it. This was all fine until like i said the 5th October, this is when things took a serious nose dive.
Let me just say im no expert having said that i don't need to be told by the tech support that i need to clear temp files to solve the problem, i mean doh!!!!
Before the problem started i would get around a 6.3mb in peak and a 6.8mb off peak. I had never seen my speed drop below 6mb never ever ever.
I am now loosing up to 6mb in speed during peak times and weekends, yes i did say up to 6mb!!!
At worst it dropped to 512kb, it normally drops to around 2.2mb-3.5mb ish.
I do play online games (PS3), and no im not that stupid to run speed tests while the PS3 is online or my PC is downloading updates lol.
I am ongoing in trying to get this resolved with Orange tech guys. Cost me around £30 in phone calls so far and nearly 2 months into having the most unstable broadband on the planet.
Sorry if i seemed sarcastic in some of this, you wouldn't believe the stupid things i have been asked by tech support when i have phoned up about this. One of them even asked if i had filters on the line, i mean hello how dumb do you think i am.
Big issue i have with all this is, my son plays PS3 and usualy goes on when he gets in from school, that's out the window now as the speed is too crap.
I have done about 50+ speed checks with the official BT website. I have had 2 engineers out who both said i had a superb line and it should be getting alot faster than what im getting normally.
As i said sorry for the sarcasm, any other info you need let me no

If your out of contract just change your ISP its suprisingly easy and quick these days with minimal downtime an hour at most usually, and your line will miraculously go back to normal, although Orange will say otherwise, and quite a few now have free support and know what they are doing.
