Hi All,
Another Wii problem.... and my first (worried) post!
I have been house sitting, staying at my folks place (they are away until after the new year)
I took my wii there, and tried to connect via their Orange wifi.
I struggled so looked online and came across the kingofmycastle website.... and followed the following steps:
======================================
First, you have to log on to your Livebox admin control panel using your PC. You can do this by using this URL in your internet brower: http://configuration.adsl/inde...x2.html
When promted for your username and password use ‘admin’ and ‘admin’ if you can’t remember ever changing it before. Make a note of your Livebox name. Mine is WANADOO-B7E8.
Now go to Security -> Firewall and turn the setting to Low (disabled) and press ’submit’. As long as you have a firewall on your PC then it’ll still be safe.
UPDATE: I no longer think you need to do this last step. The default MEDIUM position should be fine.
Then go to Configuration -> Advanced -> Wireless and make sure your setting is ‘WEP security only’. ‘WEP and WPA’ may also work but unless you’re running a WPA encrytped device it’s unnecessary.
After changing the last setting (WEP only) the live-settings software asked for me to confirm, click apply changes, and that it would take a minute to update... so I did... and internet explorer crashed....
Then it seems to have buggered up all the wireless in the house. none of the laptops, PCs etc will connect. They can detect a wireless network - but not connect to it.... use internet explorer, reconnect ot the livebox software.... anything!
I have no experience of setting up Orange braodband, I can't find their Orange documentation anywhere... and have come into work today to try and search to fix this!
If the laptops were connected via WPA (which most modern wireless cards will do) thats why they died when you switched it to wep only. Theres no problem connecting a Wii, I just did mine. Hook a laptop up with a cable to the livebox and goto 192.168.1.1 in a browser. Leave the wireless setting to the default WPA and WEP, go into the wireless security settings and make a note or printout the security key. Get the Wii to the stage where it's scanned for and found the livebox and now the bit that everyone forgets : you press button one on the livebox. This switches it to pairing mode for 10 minutes, then you goto the Wii and connect to the livebox typing in the security key you made a note of. It sits there for about a minute whirling some icon around and then it says its connected (or mine did at least).
Wired network connection is an optional extra on the Wii, Wireless is standard.
Amy's at her parent's house so I was suggesting to re-instate back to status quo......nothing to do with wireless Wii......setting up Wii was how she got into the problem situation so it's best to go back to the original settings before her parents return
