Just wondering if anyone can help please. I have purchased a laptop (Acer 2920z)for my son for Xmas and am just testing things out. I cannot connect to my livebox but my own laptop (Toshiba) has no problems. Cable connection is fine.
It has Windows Vista home premium.
Basically I have put in the WEP key and put the livebox in pairing mode but still no success.
Can anyone tell me which security the livebox uses: the options I have are - No authentication (open), Shared, WPA2- personal, WPA-Personal, WPA2-Enterprise, WPA-Enterprise, 802.1X. I have not idea!!
The types of encryption I can choose are: None, WEP, AES, TKIP. Again I am at a total loss here. Basically the message that comes up is - the setings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network.
When I click diagnose it says - Incorrect security type - the wireless security settings on ths computer do not match the settings on Livebox A358. View wireless security settings to verify that correct security type is selected.

You can log into your livebox by typing the address 192.168.1.1 in your browser and logging in with admin as the username and password. You need to either be connect to your livebox via a wired connection or use your other laptop to do this.
It should tell you under System Info what it is using.
Otherwise delete the saved connection on your laptop and let it find the network again whilst in pairing mode, enter the key and it should automatically recognise what security it is using. If you have problems with this method, log into the livebox again and check the security setting under Configuration, Adavnced Wireless is not set to " WPA or WEP security" It should be set to only one of these. WPA offers better security but can be incompatible with older devices.
