I did a search as you suggested and uncovered some very sad tales of woe.
Perhaps I'd best leave things as they are and continue to access my email from the website and leave the business of communicating with servers to those that have the magic arts. Thanks again.

Thanks for your continued support, Borednow. However, in the example you quote the problem was with username. Mine is with the password which is the same password I have had since registering above 10years ago and which was confirmed by Orange when I changed to broadband. It seems that when I use my password on the Orange site I can gain access to the server pop.orangehome.co.uk. But, although I have changed the server address successfully, as you suggested, in both Outlook Express and Thunderbird my password is rejected.
