I have a client that is trying to log in from GB on orangehomedsk.co.uk
The problem is that my site tracks the IP that someone logs in from and blocks them if they appear to be logging in from multiple IP's over a short period of time and he is constantly getting blocked because his IP changed 4 times in 3 hours one day and the next day it changed another 4 times in 3 hours.
Is this normal ?
After tracking his IP addresses for awhile it also appears that he has successfully logged in from different areas like Deutsche Telekom Ag. Does Orange use proxy servers or anything like that ?
If Orange was directing customers traffic through a proxy it would most likely be from a static IP.
Most (if not all) ISP's assign users to a pool of many IP's based in a certain region. When someone dials in they are assigned an IP from this range, disconnecting will free up that IP which will go back in to the pool. Dialling in again could result in being assigned a different IP all together.
Do you have to actually log off or something before getting a new IP or is it along the lines that you can be connected for 3-4 hours and your address may have changed during that time if you weren't active enough ?

Some dynamic IP's change constantly at every disconnect and resync, and some are semi static and only change once every 3 months or so its all according what ISP you are with, when i was with Orange it changed constantly and also with a friend of mine who was with BT at the time, before i went for a static IP with Bethere my dynamic IP with Bethere only changed twice in 9 months.

According to my logs which check my IP every 3 hours, my constantly connected live box has changed IP address 16 times in 2 months and 3 days. Or around every 4 days on average. On the single occasion I have restarted it, it changed when it restarted it.
If Orange use transparent proxies, mine isn't going through one, unless they are making allowances especially for me in their firewall, because I have a web server on my connection which is accessible from the outside world. Me alone hogging Incoming port 80 on a proxy ? I don't think so.
Its very rare to have a livebox that remains constantly connected without dropping its internet connection. Different people experience different levels of service.
The proxy is necessarily persistent, only certain traffic may get routed through it.
