Currently a friend of mine connection keeps dropping every few minutes. And every so often it come up with as message
“the connection with your access point has fail. Do you want to unpair your hardware. If you answer yes you should activate the pairing mode of you access point for connecting” can someone please explain this in plain English”.
It is a Wanadoo Live box and it only started since Wednesday. He is running windows ME and In the Inventel wireless magic window it has about 6 ports running 2 wanadoo 2BT and a few numbers ones. I worked out his own livebox one.
That just means it couldn't connect when you told it to. Due to the number of networks you can see it's probably just interference causing you to get a poorer signal than in the past.
You can try changing the channel used by the livebox to see if you can get a better signal, best to use a wired connection for this incase you pick a channel that's worse and won't let you connect.
How can you change the channel? I am not able to do a wire conection to the live box due to the positing of it and the PC & because of the operating system of Win Me.
I am running WinME here (not for much longer though) and a wired connection works fine. In fact even better being wired then you don't have to let the installation CD anywhere near your CD drive and you can configure this just fine
Is it possible to use a laptop to connect to the livebox?
You don't need the livebox connected to the phone line to change it's channel, just move it near to the pc, connect up the power and an ethernet cable. Leave the other cables for when you move it back to where it was.
On a wired connection open 192.168.1.1,
Click the link and enter the username and password as "admin",
Go into Security > Wireless Connection,
There's a drop down list for the channels just change and submit it.
Check the wireless works while it's next to the PC, if it connects remove the cable and try accessing the 192.168.1.1 pages. If you can then move the box back to where it was and see if it helps. After that keep trying different channels and hopefully you'll get one that works just as you want it.
Don't do the channels in order, it's generally accepted it's best to randomly jump around to try them as ones next to each other are close enough to get a similar problem.
