I have my livebox connected with wired connection. I am trying to connect my laptop to same livebox wirelessly. I constantly get the message that my computers firewall is switched on. It isn't.
I have disable or uninstalled all firewalls and anti virus software I have.
THe laptop shows the wireless connection shows as fine and signal strength as excellent. Then when I click on to connect wireless on the install CD it says my firewall is on.
I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm trying to connect my Dell laptop to my Orange live box. I can't get the livebox to connect wired or wireless. I get to the same point of the installation each time only to be told that the livebox cannot be connected as my firewall may be switched on. I have 2 firewalls on my system, 1) XP's built in firewall (which is always switched off) and 2)Mcafee (which I have totally disabled all antivirus and firewall protection) but still will not connect. As a last resort I phoned the Orange Helpline (or should that be Helpless?)to solve my problem. After being on the phone for 54mins and rebooting my laptop about 10 times I was told that I have a problem with my firewalls not actually shutting down and there was nothing they could do to help.
That does sometimes happen with firewalls but it's more likely something else is the cause.
Best to start with the wired connection as they should almost always work. When you plug in the ethernet cable go into network connections, what does the status for your Local Area Connection say? If connected right click, select status and go onto the support tab, what does the address type and IP address read?
Hi Elhana. Yes, i tried to start off with a wired connection. But either way i ran into the same problem with the firewall. Local Area Connection says speed 100mpbs, status connected. As for the address type and IP adress I'll have to check on that later when I get home. Thanks
Hmm well if it says connected try this next step, any problems check the address type and IP as I mentioned above.
Connect it up again, open 192.168.1.1 in Internet Explorer, you should see an Inventel Wireless Magic page, if so click the link, username and password are both "admin", click the change link for Internet Connection and in the top boxes enter your username and password provided by Orange, don't forget the end part. (EG xxxxx.orangehome.co.uk@fs) Click Validate and the page should update and say connected, also the "@" light should go static showing it's done.
can you see the live box on your wireless setting in your dell comp?, if you can change the profile to wep 128 bit i think that the right one minre did that
I connected my desktop pc to the livebox which took 3 hours. I then tried to connect my laptop wireless, but it keeps saying that my firewall is on, which it isn't. I tried wired connection and i still get the same error.
Please help!
