I have switched to o2 (now Sky) after Orange capped me for "breach" of their fair use policy.
I need to know exactly how Orange implemented the cap as my line is still capped at 2mbps. Where exactly in the loop is my line capped? is it on the bRAS server or elsewhere?
o2 (now Sky) have run tests which show my speed as over 6500kbps however speedtest.BT.com still shows my IP profile as 2000kbps
I intend to take this up with whoever can remove this limit - but since I dont know how it is implemented I dont yet have enough evidence!
Orange (as well as other ISP's using BT lines) use a wholesale system called Eco to implement caps on the line!
o2 (now Sky) unfortunately do not have experience of caps using this system since they do not implement caps! However they have logged into this system on my request and can now see my line speed as only supporting 2Mbps even though their systems show that I should be able to support 7.5mbps.
Since they can see a clear conflict they are trying to find the resolution...
Unfortunately its a friday evening and the line to 2nd line support is busy
I thought the BT Eco system related only to Ipstream and Datastream.
Rabbit80 : have you been on the BT ADSL resale product with Orange and o2 (now Sky) or on LLU ?
EDIT : my brain is now in gear .....you already said in post 1 that you were on Orange's BT resale and that presumably you are now on the o2 (now Sky) Access product (BT resale). So the Eco system will need to be modified by o2 (now Sky)....they should have access to it for their Access product...excuse the pun
Doesn't answer the recent LLU downgrades though.

Rabbit, I pm'ed you earlier regarding the BT Eco system, however after checking on http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPp...rofile.htm towards the bottom of the page is a section titled, "Stuck bRAS profile"
Quote:
Although not quite so common these days as when dslMAX was first introduced, there is still the odd occasion when a line seems to get what is known as a stuck bRAS profile.
When your line is first profiled the theory is that the DLM system should set your IP profile in line with your sync speed within the first 75 mins. If a profile is not correctly set then the default value of 2048/2000 is used. This may clear within 3 days and it may help if you say leave your router switched off overnight... but some lines just seem to get "stuck".
From my own observations this mostly appears to happen on the better quality lines - ie ones that don't loose sync or need any automatic DLM configurations.
If you suspect a stuck bRAS on your line then you will have to contact your ISP asking them to get BTw to clear a stuck bRAS profile fault.

This is apparently not a stuck bRAS profile - o2 (now Sky) have run tests and my bRAS profile is varying between 6300 and 7000kbps as expected.. It seems to be an issue with the eCo system which has capped my IPStream profile at 2000kbps. o2 (now Sky) have emailed their eCo specialist and asked him to contact me - but this has not yet happened!
I am in dispute with Orange since it is clear that they are in breach of contract!
I will keep you posted - the info may come in handy if anybody else gets caught out by it!
I am in dispute with Orange since it is clear that they are in breach of contract!
I'm not sure I understand in respect of what part of the contract, can you explain ?
In no way have I been in breach of the Orange FUP... I was on an unlimited contract but have been capped for using too much data!
I dont use P2P software and the majority of my downloading was done off-peak. My downloads are done at full speed - as such my usage was only around 3% of the time or less than 1 hour per day! This cannot be deemed to affect other users of the network in a negative way! Orange cannot produce evidence to the contrary!
As such Orange are in breach of the contract which states that they are to provide broadband at the transmission speed which is 7Mbps (section 15.1)

15.1 The Service gives you the ability using a computer of appropriate specification and the Equipment (or other independently purchased modem or router of the appropriate specification), to access the Internet at the Transmission Speed and to use the Service(s) to access the Member Service(s) and download and/or upload data up to any monthly Usage Allowance (if applicable). Such use is also subject to our Fair Use Policy.
Finally - the cap has been lifted... I will contact o2 (now Sky) tomorrow to find out exactly what was done and how the cap had been implemented and also how it was removed. I'll post here and let you all know...
As for my current speeds - 6907Kbps down 357kbps up
