Having problems accessing my Orange POP emails (username.freeserve.co.uk). Getting the unable to lock maildrop and mailbox in use error messages coming up on outlook 2007/outlook express. Phoned Orange customer support and they're mystified as to why I cant receive my emails. Changed the POP server to the IP based one and still no joy. can receive emails sometimes when omit the bit in front of ther username but its not really an option. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Seems to have been a flurry of email receiving problems.
Read through the recent threads......changing the password worked for one.
tried all of the things mentioned in the threads and still no joy. tried changing password, changing servers, reinstalling windows, different email clients etc. cant for the life of me work out what the problem is. only thing i can think of is that someone has managed 2 block the server or use it for spam as i seem to have a lot of message returns from emails i've never sent. the problem isnt just on one computer either, its 4.
Interrupting the download progress or having it timeout and then trying to download shortly after will produce the in use unable to lock mail drop error message.
If you have a lot of spam on their server which is not being downloaded this will increase your download time as it has to check through all these and the above error is more likely to happen. Even after your legitimate messages look like they have been downloaded the process still needs time to delete them from the Orange server, this can take a long time also if there is a lot of spam still on the server. Interrupting this will produce the above error.
Having leaving a copy of the message on the server can also cause this problem as the messages just build up again.
If you download everything by omitting the details before the @ and notice a large volume especially to addresses which are not checked. This could be the problem.
You could also log in via webmail to check how many messages are waiting to be downloaded. It seams there is a spam filter store which does not reach your inbox, therefore they aren't downloaded. Checking the spam settings here might be worthwhile.
