Hi, where to start, I have been with Orange since the start of freeserve, then wanadoo and now Orange.
About a 6 weeks ago my internet connection just stopped working over night. so i phone the ever helpful Orange tech support. told that everything was fine and it must be my router (Dlink 504T).
Assuming that the router had died i went out and bought a Belkin wireless G+ router. connected this up to the pc and the adsl line made sure all the setting where correct, turned it on bingo nothing whatsoever. I logged onto the setup page, which told me that the adsl line was connected at 512k downstream and 423k upstream. There was however no internet connection. upon having the usual discussion with ornage india tech support and getting no where. i phoned up to cancel my account. After talking for 20 mins i was assured that they would send my a siemens wireless router and give me a month free if it fixed the problem.
recieved the wireless router from Orange, connected it up it worked straight away no problems, excepet for the terribly slow speed. 400l down and 53 up. Im paying for an 8 mb connection. i live 100meters away from the exchange to which my house is hard wired into. I have even had BT out to test the line which they say is in fantastic condition and can easily carry speeds of over 8mb.
back to Orange support, who have just been giving my the run around since.
i was last told tonight that the problems is due to all Orange customers being transferred over to LLU and it should improve later in the month.. just great.
anyone have any ideas as to what is going on here. I have even begun to wonder if they have set it up so that only the MAC address of their Siemens wireless router is the only one that can connect as i cannot get any other router to connect whatsoever.
as there are 3 other pc's that use the net here .
anyhow sorry for the long rant. but im totally fed up of being treated like a fool.
If you want to check if your on LLU another good website is 'http://www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest.php', go on the left hand side down to tools, and then 'broadband checker'. Enter your telephone number and postcode and that will show if your area if on LLU or not...BUT...if it shows that you aren't it can be that you are just not all Orange customers within that are area. Hope that helps.
There seems to be some conflicting results between the two site, dsl zone says that the exchange is not llu enabled and kits is saying that it has been enables since 2006. they do both however state that my line is only capable of running a 2mb connection. which i can't really understand as i have been having 8mb speeds up untill a month or so ago. Is this a case of BT simply downgrading the speed of the line or something. It wouldnt be so bad if could actually attain 2mb's or even 1mb instead of the pittiful 400kbs im getting now.
I just guess it a case of leave it till the end of the month if things haven't improved. then its time to get my MAC code and leave Orange.
just been having a look around the dslzone site, running the speed prediction test for adsl max and adsl2+ this says im only able to get upto 1.5mb for the adsl max and 2 - 4mb for the adsl2+
it would also seem that the noise margins on my line seem to have increased over the past month. I take it the higher the noise margins the slower the speed will be. The current margins are:-
ADSL Line
Status: Cable connected
Line mode: G.992.1 (G.DMT)
Maximum line rate: 512 kbps (downstream) / 64 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 9 dB (downstream) / 16 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 63 dB (downstream) / 31 dB (upstream)
Output power: 12 dBm (downstream) / 8 dBm (upstream)
hopefully this will mean something to someone lol. is there anything that I can do to reduce the noise here on my line.
Well borednow that did make interesting reading. it would seem that those two are having similar problems to myself.
I'm going to get back onto Orange with copy of that thread to hand. if i indeed end up getting fobbed of as usual ill also make a complaint to the ISPA. It would seem that Orange think they are above the law.
I might also contact the press and the tv presenter Dominic diamond. see if he can give Orange a much needed kick up the behind.
