My problems first started at the beginning of June, I moved address, made the necessary arrangements with BT to switch the line and was aware Orange could not transfer me until the line had been active for 48 hours. Due to "technical issues" I finally received my connection 4 weeks later (15 day transfer included).
Since then I have been plagued by slow speeds. The Orange website said of the "upto 8mb" I am paying for I should get around 5.5mb, this later changed to 2mb, still I can manage on that.
However the highest I have seen is 750k. Last speed check shows:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 1056 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 109 kbps

I have called Orange 8 times over the last month, everytime they take me through the diagnostics which most experienced users would do automatically, every time the issue is sent to the "engineers" who should arrange for me to be contacted back within "48 hours" to either get more information or to confirm resolution.
Today I made another phone call after less that 150k, my phone can connect 3 times faster than that.
Customer services fail to help, technical fail to understand much English wider than the scripts they are trained on, I have been lied to over and over again, complaints made, a new router sent, which still has not arrived after 2 weeks. I know it is not at fault, it worked perfectly fine in my old address where I got 6mb minimum.
You will be very lucky to get anywhere with Orange.
Although it doesn't help you right now I would stronly suggest leaving them and going to a real ISP.
I speak from experience and once I moved from them I never looked back.
Consider whether your line is capable of a higher speed. If you are a long way from the exchange you may be obtaining your best speed. Check here and tell us what BT say about the speed you can get:

Check your line hasn't been capped because you exceed the download limit. There are reports that Orange are putting the cap on all the time instead of the hours of 6pm til midnight.
The Orange wire on the socket thing helped my ADSL2+ connect 2x faster than it did before I did that. I don't think it can have such a dramatic effect on other technologies, but can certainly help

It's always a good idea to use the test socket and run the tests....particularly as it's a different house and internal wiring/extensions may be unknown to you.
Plug into the test socket and leave it connected and monitored for a couple of days.
I have tried all the tests to no avail. What confuses me is I contacted Orange's Executive department who said my line will only support 512k which BT's' ADSL availability checker is currently confirming, but there have been occasions where I have obtained much higher rates without changing anything.

After another round with Orange CS I had enough, got my MAC code and due to better reviews and an offer of a higher speed I am currently awaiting my o2 (now Sky) wireless router, lets hope it really is not BT who are to blame.
