Okay, so for like 2 years I've been on the livebox fine with a modest connection speed of 3,700 kbps out of 8MB! Okay it's my old lines fault according to Orange, fair enough. But in the past 3 weeks my connection has nose-dived to a less than pathetic 500 kbps! And what can I do? Nothing! I have a business registered to the livebox phone number and a well dispersed freeserve email address that I've had for the past 10 years also on the Orange account. So unlike your lucky souls that leave Orange, what can I do except complain. And believe me I've tried that. I've explained that this is a breach of contract and that the online company I run is being severly damaged by these Stone Age speeds, each time getting the response 'we're working on it'.
Please someone give me another option that doesn't envolve jumping of a very tall building!
Also you'd be very advisable to get yourself a proper domain name for about £3 a year, so your email addresses can look something like
enquiries@yourbusinessname.co.uk otherwise you could be trapped with Orange if you want to keep that old email address!

But I am continually astounded that people use a "normal" ISP broadband account for business purposes then complain about the poor quality.
There are specialist ISPs who provide service guarantees for their business contracts.
Yes, these contracts do cost more than normal domestic broadband contracts, but at least your business doesn't suffer and your livelihood isn't compromised by a service provider who doesn't care a $#it about you, their customer.
Oh please, I'm not a noob at the internet. I have my own domain name and that domain name has professional email addresses. However my personal Freeserve email address which I got long before the days of web-based email is now spread widely around my extended family, friends and work colleagues. This email address is the only method I have of contacting some people and that's why I can't afford to leave Orange. Orange is having an adverse affect on my website because I can't upload new client details because of slow speed timeouts. Also, a while ago I ordered about 1000 business leaflets that have my livebox phone number as a secondary method of contact on them. Surely there must be some quick-fix to get Orange to act, rather than relying on third-party complaint services?

I'm afraid Orange do not know the meaning of the word quick fix.
I can see how awkward it is for you but while your with Orange you will never get rid of your connection problems etc.
You will probably have to go down the ISPA route to get these people do do anything for you and even then it isn't guaranteed, they really don't give a s***t.
Good luck

I really envy you Steve, Be look like an amazing company and I've been waiting for months for them to come to my area, to no avail. I promised myself if they ever do - I'll dump Orange immediatly!

Hi callum
Ive been with Bethere 20 months now with a couple of outages resolved within an hour.
Another alternative
I know o2 (now Sky) now offer broadband over BT IPStream (it's called o2 (now Sky) Access ) but they charge slightly more until they enable the exchange your on then move to Be, also seeings Be belongs to o2 (now Sky) you can move from one to the other (with a MAC) even if still in contract.

Funny how you say your email address is important to you, but you're prepared to dump Orange immediately. Anyway, good luck with Orange.

Sorry, I didn't know I was on trial, let me get my lawyer. I rather think the benefits of 25MB internet and great customer service outweighs one email address and phone number, however I have yet to meet another ISP who treats customers as well as Be thus the reason I'm staying with Orange. I'd rather stick with the devil I know until my knight in shinning armor comes along.
