I am brand new to computers at 52[only got computer caus daughter got new one] set up direct debit with wanadoo through HALIFAX debit card.was ok until they changed to Orange, then when a payment hadnt gone through I phoned Orange and after 20 mins on hold was told they no longer took directs from a debit card, so I set up an account with BARCLAYS just for direct debit. but lo and behold they tried to take money out on wrong dates and I got overdrawn and charged 15pounds because of it.[retired through ill health carnt afford to be overdrawn] phoned Orange again and told they would take 2 months next time and again they tried to take it l week later 15pounds again charged. phoned Orange again and was told to go back to HALIFAX and reopen direct debit through debit card so did so online at members centre. didnt hear from them so thought everything was ok and kept checking my account in members centre etc.only to get a letter from Orange again to say they dont take direct debits from a halifac account., had closed barclays and had to reopen this account and transferred funds from halifax to \cover 2 months payments and lo and behold get a letter from halifax to say overdrawn because Orange tried to take a payment. totally confused by now, so phoned bank and after 20minutes talking to them find Orange had set up direct debit through ordinery account without telling me yet i only have a debit card account with halifax and ordinery account witrh BARCLAYS. so i am overdrwn again at halifax to the tune of 39pounds. so far i owe 109pounds in overdrawn fees and 17.99 to Orange. I would like to close account with Orange and go somewhere else for ISP but would have to pay at least 6 moths contract fees. ANY ADVICE PLEASE
I never use direct debits instead I just have a cc on file for them to bill, also makes it easy to sort problems out as the cc company will speak to Orange on my behalf (saves me time and expense)
