The email address is linked to your account (it will include your username). Having said that, it's perfectly possible to keep your account open without maintaining your broadband account with Orange - it will simply revert to PAYG. However, after a few months this too will be closed unless you either access Orange PAYG dial up using your account details, or reactivate your account via their website. Note that accessing the email account alone WILL NOT be enough to keep your account active in the long term.
As for accessing your email account using your BE connection, you have two options. Firstly, you could simply use webmail, which will work as long as your now PAYG account remains active. Secondly, you could use an email client (Outlook Express) to receive mail (POP3). However, SMTP (to send mail) will not work. Even so, it will almost certainly be possible to use BE's SMTP server and to simply configure OE (or similar) with your old email address.
Basically, you should be able to get it to work. However, having written all of this. I personally would not go down this route. Orange's email servers have a pretty poor record of reliability IMO, and they've often been blacklisted because they've been used to churn out spam. I'd bite the bullet and take the opportunity to switch, personally.[/b]
