Not being very technical, can someone tell me if I have any chance of getting my 2meg+ download speeds back if the BT Speedtester continues to say the IP profile for my line is 1500 kbps.
Briefly, my previously consistent speeds since November 2006 - when Orange kindly upgraded me to a 2meg service - came to an end when I got water in my BT socket. I had been getting up to 2.8 downloads. This was 6 weeks ago.
After everything was dried out, my disastrous speeds went back up to 1470/380 - and stayed there. I then got a new socket and cable fitted - but speed remained around 1470.
A visit to BT speedtester showed my connection rate at 1888 kbps/448 with downloads at 448. Throughputs have been between 1375 and 1104.
My Livebox says attainable downloads 2112 and downstream 1792, upstream 448. I've done all the changing of filters and plugging into test socket, and connecting by wifi and by cable. Even tried the tester with the the wife's laptop - no difference at all. Still won't top downstream of 1480.
Have exchanged e-mails with tech support and asked if my profile is stuck. They suggested swapping filters....and if none of their other ideas worked, ring Mum on the sub-continent at 5p a minute and she would arrange a line test.
His Mum said (I think) I should reset my Internet Explorer! And she kept reading chunks of the original e-mail I sent to Orange back at me. Said she couldn't do line test because I was getting the right service.
The latest e-mail from "support" again ignores my questions and totally fails to comprehend what I have told them. It suggests I should re-set my Livebox. So, back to start of my rant (sorry) - is there any point?
I've left my connection alone and been connected for more than five days now, but my figures never fluctuate like they did about Three years ago when I first set up wifi and Livebox was finding its feet.
If BT speedtester says my configured download throughput speed is
1500 k, what needs to be done to get my figures back where they used to be?
