Can you help? I have what I consider to be an extremely bizarre problem. Here goes:
I have a 2mb Orange Starter Pack, a D-Link wireless router and a Playstation 3. Every time I attempt to wirelessly connect the PS3 to the router, the DSL signal disappears. The DSL LED on the router starts to flash, indicating no signal, and the Internet LED goes dark.
As soon as I turn the PS3 off, the DSL signal comes back (although it can sometimes take a bit of time).
Here's the really strange bit, though. The PS3 only has to be plugged into the mains for this problem to occur. Not even switched on to standby mode at the back of the unit. Just plugged into the mains. When it's turned on, the PS3 doesn't even have to be set to look for the router's SSID, and it still wipes out the DSL.
The PS3 always finds the router and is able to connect to it. But of course it can't get out to the internet, because it always causes the DSL signal to drop.
Here's what I've tried to fix it.
1. Changed the router.
Used to have a Belkin, which is where the problem first occured. Changed it to a D-Link. Same problem,
2. Changed all the settings as per every available PS3 guide.
UPNP disabled. Firewalls examined. Port forwarding initiated. DMZ established. Nothing.
3. Tried a different PS3 with the existing system.
I have a PS3 running at a different house, actually using a Livebox. (By the way, I used the guide here to connect it up, and it worked perfectly). So I tried this PS3 (which I know works with the Livebox) with the problem setup, Same problem: DLS disappears as soon as the unit it plugged in.
4. Tried using wired Ethernet connection.
Using a powerline system, I connected the PS3 to the router via wired Ethernet. Same problem.
SO:
I have eliminated the router hardware (by changing it for a new one), the router settings (by following the various guides here and elsewhere), the PS3 hardware (by testing another unit) and the WiFi (by connecting via powerline Ethernet, although this still doesn't seem to have disabled the WiFi).
I am starting to think that the Orange DSL connection must be at fault. Anyone else had any experpience of this? Does Orange dislike people using the PS3 with its Starter Pack? Does it send a bullet down the line to temporarily disable the router if it detects a PS3 signal?
