Having got fed up with Orange after the last DNS screw up, I hunted around and found a package from o2 (now Sky)
I checked around and everyone seemed pretty happy (some complained about the routers, but even then seemed to have them swapped out quickly)
So I chose the 8mb package for £7.50, yes you read that right. If you have a o2 (now Sky) phone, even PAYG, you get it for 7.50. (12.50 if you dont). So it's under the wifes name as she has a phone.
So I signed up.
I got a txt saying the order had been placed.
Then got an email to confirm.
Next day TXT saying Direct debit had been set up.
The letter in post with all the details.
Then got text asking for MAC details to process.
I phoned Orange and they asked why I waas leaving, I genrally said, a) the massive outage with DNS, b) the fact that supoprt is poor and c) that I can get it less thna half the price. The guy ignored everything except the price, when they tried to flog me the £19.99 bundle. i said no tankyou and then they said the MAC would arrive in a few days.
Then got txt of 02 saying router would arrive in less than 2 weeks.
MAC arrived few days later.
Enter MAC on 02's website.
Got txt of 02 saying line would be active in 2 weeks
Got txt next day saying router woukd arrive in 2 days.
2 days later courier called and delivered new shiney box (unlike the 2nd hand rubbish I got off Orange).
Another letter arrived confirming activation date fo June 10th.
Txt also said the same.
June 10th.
Arrive home, Orange down. Now is this the switch over or just another outage?
Dropped in 02 box, logs in and is set up ready to go. No work on my behalf needed!!!!!
Get onto box change WEP to WPA &WPA2 and set up devices, even the Wii like it (unlike the Orange box).
Up and running in 10 minutes.
Hour or so later got txt off 02 saying line was active and I could set up. Ok so I was a little quick off the mark.
And my verdict. Line speed at moment is slightly slower, but the REAL spped is about 5 times fater. No more 300k in the evening, had a healthy 2.3 off Bandwidth place (ruraul area)
As a side note, the support is UK based as well.
So all in all Orange, learn from o2 (now Sky). This IS REAL customer service! I've not had to complain about damaged 2nd hand goods, not had to travel 20 miles to pick up a box I didn't know was being delivered, not had to phone up asking for my login details I never received.
I moved to o2 (now Sky) earlier this year and can recommend them 100% also.
They provide a fast, stable connection and free, ENGLISH SPEAKING customer support that is both knowledgeable and friendly.
WHen I first joined the router was dropping out but they updated the firmware from their end and it has never dropped since.
Brilliant!
Like you say STuReeves - Orange need to learn.
It's a competeitive market for everything so non-caring idiots like this get caught out by repuation.
The order complete text comes after they are notified by BT the work has been done. On my exchange they seem to do changeovers overnight and my o2 (now Sky) line was ready when I got up at 7am and didn't get the text till about 1pm
