Hi,
I've been using Wannado/Orange BB with my Linux systems for about Three years now, mostly without any issues. However, following a reboot, I've been without my BB since yesterday morning, and am baffled by the cause. The diagnostics on my Firewall+ADSL modem indicate that ADSL is Sync'd, that PPP CHAP authentication was successful, and that the connection was then terminated with a remote authentication failure without an IP addressed being assigned. If I change my password, then the failure mode becomes a local authentication failure, which is correct. Changing the password back to the correct value returns to the remote authentication failure problem.
Sounds to me like a problem at the far end of the BT ATM circuit, ie. an Orange issue?
Yes sounds like it's the same problem I'm experiencing, just have to keep trying to connect....I restart via the router config. page.....eventually it re-connects.
Apparently Orange are sorry for the delay in getting a human to talk to me as 9pm is one of their busiest times... FWIW, does anyone know of an hour of the day that is not one of Orange's busiest?
Eventually spoke to very nice lady, discovered that apparently there is a 'crease' on my line, and that I should speak to the customer support people to find out why.
Renegotiated the phone system to get the customer support people. Joined the hordes of other people also not interested in Orange mobiles, upgrading an existing BB service, having on Orange land-line nor Orange's apologies for their delays and wasting their customers time.
Eventually spoke to another nice lady, though due to the appalling sound quality of the line I was unable to catch her name. Maybe Orange need to find another service provider for their low-bandwidth VoIP solution. From this lady I learn that in fact there is no cease on my line. I then spoke to Dominic who was also baffled by the 'cease' diagnosis. A note is left in the system to tell TS that no, my line really, really isn't the victim of a 'cease'. A note in the system, sure, but apparently CS and TS have two separate systems! Finally, I'm transferred back to TS, or rather, the TS telephone queue.
Well, almost. I was put me back at the start of the telephone maze. I re-re-navigated my way through the system again and sat in another queue only to discover that I've come through to Nikish in 'Live Box' tech support, not the modem tech support. I was advised that Nikish does not have the ability to transfer me to the correct desk. Sorry, but, is this not a communications company he works for? And they can't transfer calls internally? Yet they expect us to trust them to transfer our data? Maybe Orange really are soon to not be a communications company...
Enough, I'm frustrated now, and getting bitchy solves nothing (unfortunately). So I shall try again tomorrow.

Thanks for your encouragement Borednow. Sadly, overclicking on 'Connect' for four days straight has achieved nothing except RSI in the carpal canal of my right index finger. D'oh!

After some experimentation last night I was able to authenticate to the bt_user@startup_domain test account, but still got the failure to setup any network protocol connections - ie. IP...
Trying speedtest@speedtest_domain bought the same result.
Tried using PPPoE encapsulation, mentioned elsewhere on these pages, before deciding it was a bad idea and reverting to PPPoA. That's when it's gone completely mental. My modem stopped talking to me, so a hard reset of the system was required. I'm still getting the ADSL sync light on my modem, which is good, but now I can't authentication to anything, not even the bt_user test account, as the handshake is NOT getting that far! Nooo...
So, looks like my modem might be fritzed then?
That I'm not able to connect to the bt_user@startup_domain test tool says to me maybe this is not an Orange problem anymore.
