I am really getting stressed with Orange now. Th broad band has neaver been great, latley the laptop wireless compleatley died and took me hours to sort out, now this!!
I have just brought a brand new £600 dell and can't get a wireless connection.
It is running on vista and has an inbuilt wireless card, also I have a linksys wireless g range expander to bounce the signal.
When I first set the computer up it was showing linksys and live box as avalible. I have deleted the linksys.
When I connect to the livebox, it says it is taking longer than usual to connect. It then shows up as not connected but says underneath you are connected to this network but it is limited and no internet. Also the signal is exellent!!
It also says it's an unknown network and saying it could be the wep key when i try and diognose the problem.
I have spoke to Orange, reset the live box, changed the channel evan the wep code, nothing has worked. The security is set to wap only and I have tried connecting with the origional wep code and a different one, still no luck.
I am not changing the settings again as evertime i do it messes the wireless laptop connection up. At current I have a wired desktop and wireless laptop running fine, touch wood!
Please can you help, anything I am doing wrong or settings that need changing on the new pc? Or is the range expander causeing a problem?
I just don't understand how the signal can be full and not get a proper connection!
I'll try and help.. There are many reasons why your laptop may not be connecting to the Internet...
The most common for Local Only.. Is because of security settings... If you have another Laptop connecting fine... Try this..
Right click the Network Icon in your taskbar.. And click Network & Sharing Center.
Below the Internet Globe.. Will be " View Status ". Click it..
Under the connection section click Wireless Properties.
Then click the Security Tab. Make sure it's set to WPA-Personal. If this one doesn't work... Play with the other few options...
And then TKIP.
Click Ok..
See if that works.. If you get completely disconnected and a red X appears in the Connect To A Network window.. On the Network & Sharing Center in Tasks on the left hand side.. Click Manage Wireless Networks.. Remove yours from there.. And re connect..
I have another destop with a wired connection and a wireless laptop both on xp, running on the livebox
The one I'm having trouble with is my brand new dell, it will connect but says limited connection and no internet, tried changing channle and wep code, been on phone to Orange 4 times, still don't work.
