I can get the wired connection to work but the wireless connection just keeps trying "Aquiring Network Address". My computer is set up to automatically identify address etc but it just doesn't. I am no expert but I just noted the IP addresses from the wired connection and tried to use those however surprise surprise it didn't work although the status did change from aquiring network address to connected, although it didnt seem to be connected to anything. The other thing it does when it cant seem to aquire netwrok address it then gives me the message that "limited or no connectivity" even though signal strength is excellent. Have phoned helpline twice and on both occassions they said it wasn't a fault with the Orange connection therefore it is a third party issue
You fell into a trap there. There's no point setting an IP address if it won't work on automatic, practically never works because getting the address isn't the cause of the problem plus as you found when you do set it it thinks it's connected when it isn't.
First of all setup the wired connection and leave it until you think you've sorted the wireless, saves time and hastle I've found.
Go into the livebox config pages (192.168.1.1 username and pass are by default "admin"), security section, wireless connection. Copy and paste the WEP key over. Make sure the antenna light is flashing, press the 1 button if it stops and try to connect again.
Even though the signal is excellent if there's interference then that can be another cause, same config section as above, change the channel and try connecting again after a minute or so. Best to pick channels that are several away from what it's on at the time.
Last one is to check the livebox security. Configuration, Advanced, Wireless. Turn it to no security, let it settle and try and connect, remember to make sure the antenna light is flashing. (After it connects once you don't need to bother with pressing 1 anymore as they're then paired) It should hopefully then connect and get a good IP address, then change it over to WEP only, paste the key over again and see if it connects.
If you think it's connected at some point pull out the ethernet cable and check.
