When you leave Broadband and your account becomes PAYG, does your webspace and email address stay?
My webspace is still active now, but can I rely it on not going? I can't log into my FTP space at the moment, so I assume I have do dial the anytime number to be able to amend my webspace

No I can't connect whilst ADSL'ed in to o2 (now Sky). I think it's standard practice - it was the same when I moved from ntlworld to Orange and I wanted to access my ntl webspace

I'm not sure I understand your "no"; as I wrote, I am with Orange. It's certainly true that you can't upload files if you're not using their connection, which is fair enough IMO.
Interestingly, I've just noticed that the site stats show zero visitors for my site for the 20th, 21st and 22nd; the next lowest day this month has had 38 visitors, so that service was obviously down, too, although as far as I'm aware the site was accessible throughout that period.
Anyway, my comment about Orange's "reliable" service stands, although a few days of inconvenience isn't too bad considering the webspace is free, I suppose. It would have been helpful if they had been able to send an email out to registered webspace users (i wonder how many have mucked up their FTP client's settings in an attempt to get it working?), but I realise that this would be way, way beyond Orange.
I still use (or did) my Freeserve webspace to host mainly eBay images and the odd webpage but found today I can't connect via ftp://uploads.webspace.freeser...ve.net/
It always was slow to connect but I am starting to suspect they may have withdrawn it as I notice there are no longer references to it's setting on the online help pages.
Anyone else have similar problems or know something I don't ?
PS. My existing webpages still load ok from my freeserve address

How are you connecting to the internet? There's been a problem with using Liveboxes and the old Freeserve webspace since a firmware update about 18 months ago, so if you've switched to using one since you last logged in that could be your problem. The only solution is to disable the Livebox's firewall, in my experience; for this reason, I gave up on the old space some time ago.
Anyway, I'm still able to log in to my "old" webspace using the above method, so your problem isn't universal if if it's not Livebox related.
Actually you have just jogged an old mans memory. I have had the livebox for two years or so and soon realised turning off the internal firewall sorted all manner of problems out. I had to reset the box a couple of weeks ago and forgot to turn it off until seeing your reply.
Everythings back to normal now so thanks for the memory jog
