I've never written here and probably won't write anymore from now on. But I wanted to encourage anyone to leave Orange as soon as possible.
As many of you I had numerous problems with Orange broadband 8meg. I'm an Orange mobile customer, and I signed up for the 8meg broadband option for 5 quid a month. It looked like a good deal, and it certainly was for the first months. Then problems started to happen: slow speeds, disconnects and the dreaded ppp server down.
I had ppp server down problems since beginning this year, but somewhat they went away by just restarting the livebox. Then at the end of April my connection just died. ppp server down and no way to fix it. 1 day, 2 days, 3 days...at the 4th day I call support. I go through all the nonsense scripted procedure with the indian call centre, still no results. I get promises of line checks, escalations and what not, but my connection was still dead.
I've read about the ppp server down issue. I've read the horror histories on this site and others. I know about the horrible horrible customer service Orange provides. I just didn't to go through all that for fixing my bloody internet connection.
You know what I did? I left. I asked for my MAC code and migrated to o2 (now Sky). The whole procedure took about 2 weeks, and in the mean time I got one of those 3G dongles from Three mobile to access the internet. Total cost: 50 quid (dongle) + 15 quid (3GB voucher) + 10 quid (cancellation of my Orange broadband service). 75 quid is not a small quantity of money, but my time and sanity are certainly worth much more. And as an added plus, now I can access the internet from almost anywhere
I just got my o2 (now Sky) connection this morning. It's fast and the o2 (now Sky) guys keep you informed about the procedure progress via text and email. So far so good, hopefully it will keep like that.
In any case, what I'm trying to say is: don't put up with these guys. Just get out of here if you can. In my case I only had two months of contract left, so I paid "just" 10 quid. If you have more and you have not been provided good service, you can claim to them and probably they wont charge you the remaining of the contract.
P.S.: The 3G mobile broadband from Three is quite decent. Sometimes slow, but acceptable speed overall
I left Orange last year after a year of broadband hell.
Curiosity occasionally brings me back here to see if they have got their act together.
It makes me angry to see that they are still up to their old tricks.
So yes, get out as soon as you can. For most who do it it's a relatively painless process, which they wish they'd done a lot earlier.

Ask them for your MAC and remind them that your aware that they have to provide a valid MAC within 5 working days by law, and that if you don't recieve it you will report them to the ISPA here and fill in their complaints form.
