i have been an unlimited Orange broadband customer with a wireless livebox for two years without any major problems. however from last thursday evening, the 8th of may i have suffered an incredibly slow Orange connection download speed. the past week has been nothing but useless customer service diversion and stalling tactics, with now no apparent progress to even locating the fault never mind fixing it.
after what must be hours total now all Orange's technical run through and procedures with hardware checks (on their national rate call line i might add), im still stuck with a ridiculous constant 60kbps download speed, and crazily enough, my upload speed seems to have actually increased to a consistant 350kbps up!! ergo my upload is now 6 times what my download speed is, using dial up speeds is like going back to the dark ages and also means Orange are not only flushing my service money down the drain but also money for the likes of XBL subs, which of course is impossible to use with such a slow speed.
im at a loss to explain why this speed oddity would be after hardware checks, other than an external line fault. further to this, it seems i might have been suffering a slow down speed originally, when clocking in at around 1900kbps my service is set to the 8meg package, and it seems to me its possible i should have been getting closer to that mark all along but for some reason i never have. and yes i know that theres a lot of factors to determine line speed, but i am suspicious i was being short changed even before this crippling fault by a good few megs bandwidth when checking my line with other local people and providers including BT
is there anything i can say or do to get Orange to wake up and listen, instead of demanding constant useless speed tests from all times of the day, when the line is a constant 60/380 speed anyway?
or is this just going to be another case of sorry we suck, here is your MAC code?
Very few people who post on here ever get any sense out of Orange when they ring - just the usual excuses.
They certainly won't offer you a MAC code as they desperately try to keep customers even when providing little or no service.
This is speaking from my own experience too.
You can request a MAC code which has to be given to you in 5 working days by law.
This is regardless of any remaining contract too of which the ouytstanmding payments can be sorted with them separately.
There are lots of things they don't tell you, including the truth, but this site is very enlightening and helpful to share experiences.
