After holding on the phone for 67 MINUTES I managed to speak to an Indian with reasonable English language skills. He told me that the current problems with the servers will take at least 24 hours to solve.

It is very annoying that their website says everything is running smoothly. I managed to find a number to get through on the phone for an update of their status.

They are getting lots of calls thankfully. I spoke to my sister in Newcastle, I live in Chester and she is having the same problems. I am connected via dial up.
This company put me through 'hell' for want of a better word and I ran up a huge dialup bill just looking for help to solve the problem in case it was my fault. Spoilt our Christmas somewhat, once we spoke to a British engineer, who realised I knew I had done everything possible to eliminate problems, next day got a connection!! Long long story. I am reliving all this again. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I am trying to be positive and hope when they sort this things will improve, I don't want to set up with any other provider, I don't think I could stand the stress.
I've just wasted the last two hours trying to get my Orange broadband connection working. I didn't think the problem was at my end, because even though I was unable to access any websites, my firewall was still showing the usual incoming blocked packets.
Luckily I have a second line for work (not Orange of course), so I was able to check the "very helpful" Orange website which showed me that there they weren't having any problems with their broadband!
And where is the contact phone number on that site? I eventually found it here on this site and gave them a call.
Why couldn't they just put a simple message on their website saying there were problems? Complete muppets!
