Hi all.
I have set up this account as my dad is using Orange broadband but seen as he cannot even get the modem installed i am looking into this on his behalf..
He has had the modem working perfectly before for quite a long time, but recently he had to replace his computer after a power surge and he is now using a borrowed system that has just had a fresh format and install of xp professional.
The problem now is that when trying to install the modem drivers an error message pops up stating that there has been an unexpected error and the application needs to close, do you want to send this report to microsoft blah blah..
This pops up about 3 times during the driver install process but the installsheild wizard still continues as though nothing has happened.
I believe the problem was stated to have something to do with a windows 2000 driver error?
Once the wizard is finished it tells you to plug the modem in via the usb, which upon doing so gives the modem 2 solid green lights.
We also installed the Dr Speedtouch diagnostics tool and that shows that the modem is present but disconnected.
Upon entering the network connections folder there is no sign of the speedtouch modem at all so we cannot go into the properties to enter his Orange broadband account details as it doesn't exist.
After over 2 hours on the phone to Orange technical support(about half an hour of which was needed to understand what they were saying) they said that the computer was missing a DUN file? And that was probably why the driver wouldn't install? I have searched for info on this and found nothing.
So thats the problem as it stands and i hope someone can shed some light on this issue, it has really got me puzzled.
they said that the computer was missing a DUN file?
You should go to the Orange website, and click on help and support. Choose Broadband & DialUp Help. In the box where it says "just type in your question and go", enter kb6008 and click find.
This will bring up another screen, click on the first option (kb6008) "How do I reinstall Dial Up Networking (DUN), click on the link on the page that opens and follow the instructions.

Good news, re installing the dun and resetting the tcp/ip as suggested in the info from the Orange support website worked and my dad is now back online
Why Orange did not inform us of this on the phone is still annoying but we are just glad to have the problem fixed.
