After months of frustrating calls to Orange Tech "Support" (the last word being a misnomer) I still cannot get any sustainable broadband access.
My Bekin router has worked well since installing it 2 years ago but for the last 8 weeks I can get as far as my homepage (google) and I can do a search and can see the results returned but try clicking on any link / search result and the page hangs for ages, eventually after a few hours reverting to "IE cant display the page". Norton Liveupdate and Windows updates also fail. Even typing a url direct into a browser window has no effect.
I have tried resetting the router. I have tried a new one. I have even replicated it all using a friend's broadband and no issues yet Orange keep telling me its my laptop (it aint) or its my router (it aint) or its my firewall (it aint) or its Vista (nope) or its XP (nope).... in other words its everything else not them at fault.
I must have had 30 phone calls to them and tried umpteen different MTU settings, PPoa, PPoe, this that and the next thing. I;ve also noticed the line seems to be being flooded and told them there's a load of incoming traffic attempting to attack various ports but hitting my firewall (and being bounced) which means its a line fault or something on their server or they're letting attacks thru all to no avail.
I have had enough trying to understand what their tech support guys say as their poor VOIP service and heavily accented english make support a joke.
Last week I asked for my MAC code and suddenly got switched to a Customer Service chap (in the UK) who was more insistent on making me stay than issuing my MAC code - I had to threaten to write giving them 7 days etc before he finally said he'd process it - lo and behold his next words were that HE could see a line problem and an engineer would be onto it.
Funny how he could see an issue as soon as I indicated I wanted to leave Orange but no one in their call centre could for the previous 2 months!
Exchange is NewSouthgate so interested to hear if others have this issue or if there is a work around while my new ISP transfers me
