Hi, this is my first post, and i think this forum is fantastic,
I have been with Orange for years, we started off on Freeserve as a dialup customer then we got 512K broadband with freeserve, then they changed to wanadoo, and we decided we wanted to upgrade to 1 Meg, so we asked them, and paid 20 pounds admin fee, and they upgraded us, and it took 2 months and many phone calls to get it, we was at the end of our tether.
And we have been on 1 meg till a few weeks ago when i decided i would shop around and get my MAC code from Orange, so i rang them up and told them i wanted my code, and they said oh, let me put you throught o the right person, we got put through to a very pleasant young lady, and she said that they didnt want us to leave and they could offer us Broadband Max with a livebox, free anytime calls to landlines with upto 8 meg broadand for the same price, with no contract, so i said i would give it a go.
The live box arrived about 4 days later, so i didnt think that was bad, and that is setup and working, but im still waiting for the talk service to activate, where does the 24 hours come into play?!
Orange activated the 2 Meg upgrade the other day, and i am recieving that now, so i rang them up and asked why i was only recieving 2 meg and not nearer 8, and the women said that i will defeanately get 8 meg within a couple of months, and i think she said something about this LLU thing,
But i have checked on different websites and my exchange can get upto 8 meg, and BT say that i can recieve from 6.5 to 8 meg, so why cant i get anymore then 2? are they having me on? because i only live in a relitively small village, and i must be close to the exchange, so are Orange having me on?
And how long does the talk service take to activate? is there a set time?
Thanks for any help, and sorry that its such a long post!

It should come on automatically within the first week or if you don't want to wait give them a call and ask for it to be manually activated. They should ask for a couple of details from the livebox and do it for you then and there.

Orange use ADSL upto 2 meg and LLU upto 8 meg currently. ADSL Max (the BT upto 8 meg system) they don't yet do, supposed to be coming in around November.
Oh right, thanks for that, the lady on the phone said that i would get 8 meg within a couple of monthsw whatever, so ill just wait and see what happens.
Also, ive heard people on here saying about the live boxes being slow with the connection speed? is there a problem with the speed with them? and has Orange released an optimiser for it? like they have with the Speedtouch?
ADSL MAX is the 8 meg service from BT that can be resold by an ISP that buys the service from BT Wholesale.
Orange dont offer this as they have their own service, non BT, which is called LLU. This is not the same as BT 8 meg BT ADSL MAX.
Go to another ISP for ADSL Max 8 meg or stick with Orange 8 meg LLU, but be warned, the BT service is much more stable than Orange LLU.
Also you dont need a MAC from Orange to move away, MAC is for psudo BT services offered by most UK ISPS so chack with the ISP you are off to to see if they need an Orange MAC, they prob wont if you are on LLU from Orange and it just delays the move.
I rang Orange today and they said that the majority of there subscribers have been moved over to LLU?!, and that it is being rolled out across the country and that i havent got a date for the migration yet, but she said that i will defeanately recieve it within a few months, but im not under any contract so if there is no change after a few months then i will move to someone else.
What do you think? do you think they are lying? and i may not recieve LLU at all in the near future?

LLU is rolled out according to areas with the most customers, the more who benefit the more cost effective it seems to them. The more rural your area the longer it'll take to be available, if at all in some places.
The only way to get more details is to look out for the email, check the availability on the Orange site and have a look on Samknows.com too.

...Leave before they start this 'upgrade'..that is if they even have the decency to tell you before they start yanking on the wires..
I've been a Freeserve/Wandoo Customer for many years (and until a few weeks ago was 100% satisfied) - that counts for nothing. .
My LLU 'upgrade' arrived unnanounced and only succeded in cutting me off completely.
The alleged customer care/service or tech support are completely useless and only end up costing you more money (@7.5p a minute).
Samknows is not always up-to-date - get out early!!!!
Thanks for the advice, i dont believe they will get me the 8 meg upgrade within a couple of months, as they have stated, because i am in a semi rural location, and i just dont think llu is coming to my area very fast!
But i am going to give it another month or 2 and then check again, if llu isnt enabled in my area then i am going to go with BT who can give me 8 meg on adsl max.
