I'm having real trouble with my father's internet and have tried everything I can think of. Up until a few months ago everything was working perfectly, then for no reason he is unable to connect only getting the error : "No Dial Tone"
Orange sent him a speedtouch modem to try and sometimes it will connect, briefly, and allow the system to dial in - but then always crashes out with the No Dial Tone error. The Speedtouch light flashes on and off when this happens.
He has been given conflicting advise by Orange technical over how to best set up the system, and I'm getting lost as well ! The main phone junction is downstairs and his PC is upstairs... I think at the moment the configuration is set up as :
I don't understand how his set up can work with no issues for almost a year and then suddenly give up the ghost.
Any suggestions welcome, or if you are in the Peterborough area and feeling charitable then I would welcome a third opinion on getting this set up for him.
You should either use the Speedtouch modem or the Livebox not both.
When you say "dial in" there should be no dialling in with a broadband connection, so make sure that in I.E. > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > "Never Dial a Connection" is selected and in LAN Settings "Automatically detect settings" is selected.
