I wont blister on about all my probs with Orange - past em now - needless to say they are monkeys & it took me months to convince them as such after mucking up most of my mobile phone & broadband - they DID reply to my letter eventually - it cost em £60 in what they called " a gesture of goodwill" Partly because the women had had a good laugh at the tone & content of it. But there you go.
Anyhow to the point:
This livebox thingy is pants.
My connection is slow & gets slower. I used to have a much faster connection with the old USB powered speedtouch 330, I have swirched off left - switched on - plugged in unplugged you name it to no avail. Speedtest puts me on 276 KBs down 378up today - altho it never differs much. I was watching a vid I had watched in the past on U tube - before - no problems - now - 5 seconds play. stop. 5 seconds - stop.
I can't deal with this - I ' Thought' I was moving to a superior system ( yeah right!) If I didnt need the wireless for my laptop I'd put it all back!
Is it worth trying something else? I can borrow a netgear wireless router that is currently unused. Any better? easy to setup if so?

ok
unsure what livebox stas are ( am still working at the mo - so will take time later to suss that out) however the other stats from speedtester are:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 250 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1600 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 222 kbps
dunno what that means - but the numbers seem small to me!

ok had a dig around and sussed what u meant by livebox stats
assume these are the numbers you need.
Noise margin (dB) : 9.3
Attenuation (dB) : 59.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 1760
Internet protocol : pppoa
does this help?
will attempt the plugging direct bit - but will need to run test with wireless laptop first to see if any difference as the PCs are in the office & the main box is in the lounge.

Actually the livebox stats are unlikely to confirm any problem as such from the BT speedtest. The IP profile is low showing there was a problem but the sync speed has gone up to 1600 showing it must have been a fair bit lower to set the profile.
Providing it's stable then the profile should change back up in under 3 days.

will do the test from the main box anyhow - the line from the main box to the office is quite long and was done by myself. TBH its always been (in my opinion) much slower than the old speedrouch 330 modem. And I wouldnt have said its been any slower in recent times than it has in the past.
I am about 1 1/2 miles I would say (driving route) maybe 2 at the most to the exchange.
But thanks for all your help =- both of you - I will let you know how the test to the main box goes on......

Attenuation confirms, more or less, your 2 miles distance from the exchange and the Noise Margin is nothing disasterous so Elhana is probably right but keep running the BT speedtester, say once a day, and you'll see the results improving.
