On every independent speed test that I run, I never seen to get any higher than 2904kbps. Is there anything I can do to get the connection speed closer to that stated?

On those stats, nothing.
Your sync speed allows for a maximum 3 meg profile, which you have as you're tests are coming back just a fraction under that.
You could improve the sync speed, and therefore the profile by getting your wiring checked etc.
To get a 3.5meg profile you'd need to get the downstream improved to a stable speed over 4000kbps. Also profile changes upwards are not immediate, they can take upto 3 days to show stability.
