All was well until Orange 'migrated my line' whatever that means. They spent the weekend doing it and i was without internet.
I use my belkin wireless router for internet access.
When the internet was back on my router no longer works properly - the speedtouch (emergency back up) does but i need wireless!
I reset my belkin and tried many permutations - even begrudgingly called a foreign state to discuss my technical issues. Eventually i got to the uk call centre where someone said my mtu needed changing and i was to just have a go at changing it.
I tried many possibilities of setting for the mtu but nothing helps. When using the belkin i can only access google and Orange pages.......
Was going to cancel and go to o2 (now Sky) cos they're great but they dont cover my area yet......
Any clues on mtu? i read all kinds of help but nothing seems to work...
But it's unlikely to be an MTU issue... if you had a broadband connection through the same router before, then you shouldn't need to change anything but your sign in name and password.
If your PC can't connect through the router, try disabling WEP, then opening a command prompt and entering ipconfig/release and after the response, entering ipconfig/renew
That should stop in looking for any old connections and try to pick up an IP wirelessly.
Or you could try phoning Orange technical support lol

When a "migration" to LLU (which is probably what Orange were indicating) has occurred then a change of MTU & RWIN settings will be required in the majority if not all cases. This is the one of the main causes of poor connection/speeds after migration and also for pages not loading.
Oh and i tried the help section here
-Working out your maximum MTU-
I managed to do the ping test thing and got a value of 1464 which i then added the 28 to as recommended and got 1492 the rec number by Orange which didnt help!!!!!!!

But have you run www.dslreports.com/tweaks ? This gives you a lot more data and recommends tweakable settings.
I'm running WinXP, syncing at around 6000 and have :
MTU = 1430 RWIN = 166800.
